Japanese Water Garden

Japanese Water Garden with Ecosystem Koi Pond

Location: Twickenham, London

Project Type: Japanese Water Garden

Designed & created by Daniel Windley

We were asked to design and create a bespoke Japanese Water Garden for a Victorian house in Twickenham.

This garden features an ecosystem Koi Carp pond with waterfalls and natural streams, as well as a Japanese Cloud Tree. We also installed Millboard decking for a classic Japanese feel and added Japanese-style planting.

The biggest challenge was the very limited access to the garden, which meant bringing all machinery and materials through the house. To protect the interior, we carefully covered the hallway and kitchen, and moved large rocks by hand to create the water features.

Over the years, this garden has grown into a beautiful and peaceful space. We looked after it for the new homeowners, including sourcing high-quality Koi fish on a private Koi buying trip.

This project inspired our collaboration with the University of Bedfordshire English Department who we commissioned to write and publish a unique creative writing piece about the garden by renowned author Dr. Timothy Jarvis.

“Daniel at Brit Ponds was exceptional from start to finish. He is a master at what he does and created the most beautiful Japanese Water Garden for me, on time, on budget and most importantly surpassing my expectations. I would recommend him to family, friends and clients without hesitation.”
